Together, we're forging the next path

Everyday Australians deserve affordability, safety, and a government that listens and acts with conviction. Share your feedback today.

The power of our community, and indeed the Australian people was demonstrated clearly when I took your message on net zero to the Liberal Party room last week. I am proud that our community’s effort resulted in an outcome that puts everyday Australians first. Together, we are forging a path that prioritises affordability – just as you told me you wanted in my survey.

Standing up for Australians

When Australians are suffering so much under the Albanese Labor Government’s failed targets and broken promises, something needs to change. That change is happening. I am also standing up for our country on the government’s failure to protect its citizens. Every Australian deserves to be able to call triple zero when they need it. Sadly, today we have heard of another death. This time due to handset devices not being compatible following the government's failed 3G shutdown. I have been warning about this for a month since the issue became public. Whether it is a network outage, incompatible handsets or infrastructure failures, we need an independent investigation. I have been pushing on behalf of the Coalition for the Government to act, including amendments to legislation, calling for a public register of outages and listing our Triple Zero network as an essential service under critical infrastructure.

Protecting our kids and communities

I have also been warning about the lack of direction when it comes to the Albanese Labor Government’s under 16 social media ban, and that it is unacceptable for Australians to be compelled to use digital ID. We all want to protect kids, but the way the government is going about it carries a high risk of failure. We still don’t know which platforms are in or out, the age verification technology that will be used and it is reported in the media today that 81% of people don’t understand how the government’s ban will work.

Walking with conviction

It is an important time for us as a party and opposition. I was asked by the media the other day why I walked into the Party Room alone before our net zero decision. My answer: there is strength in walking alone when you are walking with conviction. That day, I carried the strength of our community’s conviction.

I’ve also been asked about leadership ambitions. My answer is simple: I love our country, I am passionate about our people, and I want Australians to have a better life for them and their families. It would be an honour to lead the Liberal Party and our country one day for all Australians.

Listening to you

Today, we need to be a strong opposition, listening to the Australian people and acting with conviction. I listened to you on our country’s energy future, and I am listening again.

I want to hear your views on immigration, cost of living, housing and community safety. If you live locally in Lindsay, you should have received a survey in the mail. You can also complete it online here.

Your voice matters

Thank you for your emails, calls and stopping me in the street. I would love to hear what you think about the above and any issues that matter to you, and always value the effort you take to contact me. Together we can make sure everyday Australians are heard.

My very best,

Melissa McIntosh MP
Federal Member for Lindsay
Shadow Minister for Communications
Shadow Minister for Women
