Statement on shooting at Trump rally

Statement as the Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of the US

A democratic nation is about freedom of movement, speech and belief, equality for all, and tolerance of opposing ideas.

When a politician steps onto the stage to address their supporters in a democracy, this is what they are representing.

Australia and the United States share these values. We also stand together against political violence. It has no place in either of our countries.  

It is heartwarming to see the outpouring of care for President Trump and his supporters; everyday Americans exercising their right to freely participate in the election process who have been caught up in this terrible political attack. 

May it never happen again.
