Australia Post still has questions to answer on US suspension
9 September 2025
Today, Australia Post announced postal services to the United States will resume at the end of September using a third-party provider, Zonos.
Australia Post has not said how much more Australian businesses will need to pay to get their postage to US customers. Australian companies are already facing cost pressures from the Albanese Labor Government due to rising energy prices, high inflation and industrial relations changes.
The tariff dispute with the United States is hurting the Australian economy. It has been 307 days since the election of President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is yet to get a meeting to discuss the ending of the tariffs.
Shadow Minister for Communications, Melissa McIntosh MP said, “the resumption of postal services by 25 September is welcomed, but this will come at an increased cost to small and family businesses getting their goods to the US.”
“The suspension of some postal services across America came as a shock to Australians, many of whom had to put their services on hold.
“The on-going failure of the Prime Minister to secure a meeting with the US President is having on-going economic impacts that Australians should not have to cop. It’s been 307 days and still Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has not discussed the tariff issues which are hitting Australia.
“The big question is: how much will Australians have to pay for postal services to United States under these new arrangements?
“Australian businesses are struggling with skyrocketing energy costs, high inflation, increased regulation, industrial relations changes and the uncertainties of postal services thanks to the Albanese Labor Government. The government needs to address why they haven’t locked in a meeting with the President Trump to work towards ending the tariff dispute.”
