COALITION TO BUILD $1 BILLION FIFTEENTH AVENUE UPGRADE
A Dutton-Littleproud Coalition Government will deliver essential transport infrastructure needed to connect Sydney communities with the jobs and opportunities to be created in rapidly growing Western Sydney, starting with a commitment to provide matching funding of $500 million with the New South Wales State Government to duplicate Fifteenth Avenue.
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Senator Bridget McKenzie said the Coalition will get much needed Western Sydney infrastructure projects back on track after three wasted years of cuts and delays by the Albanese Labor Government.
“The Prime Minister has shown he cannot be trusted to deliver the infrastructure Western Sydney needs after cutting more than $2.5 billion in road and rail projects from the region since his election,” Senator McKenzie said.
“It more than a year ago since the Prime Minister scrapped funding invested by the Coalition to plan for essential upgrades to Fifteenth Avenue.”
“Yet on the eve of an election, the Prime Minister wants the community to forget his record of inaction and be swayed instead by new funding announcements, but the public knows better” Senator McKenzie said.
Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, Melissa McIntosh said Labor has no credibility when it comes to infrastructure in the West, having ripped away funding to projects like Mulgoa Road stage 2, the M7-M12 Interchange and even Fifteenth Avenue itself.
“Western Sydney cannot afford another three years of Labor’s neglect of the region and cuts to infrastructure,” Mrs McIntosh said.
“The Coalition will deliver the roads and transport infrastructure needed to cut congestion and connect Western Sydney to help get people to work, study or home quicker and safer,” Mrs McIntosh said.
Liberal candidate for Werriwa, Sam Kayal welcomed the Coalition’s $500 million commitment to duplicate Fifteenth Avenue saying the road urgently needs to be upgraded to accommodate existing needs of the community and also plan for the additional houses that will be built in the region.
“Already the community are experiencing severe traffic jams in peak time with cars snaking three kilometres and taking up to 40 minutes to travel just 300 metres at some times,” Mr Kayal said.
“Labor has taken the Werriwa community for granted for decades and local residents and small businesses are living the impact of years of Labor neglect,” Mr Kayal said.
End.
